Things that surprised me about Britain

This is an ongoing list that I’ll add to as and when I learn of interesting things.

1. Rush hour usually starts around 4pm. Most Britons start work early and after spending 8 hours at work, they leave at 4pm.  When I first arrived in the UK, I was puzzled to see heavy traffic so early in the day and wondered how it could be.

2. There are many roundabouts in UK.

3. The last 15mins before end of work day is an exclusion time zone. Britons get annoyed if you try to catch them during this exclusion time zone as it could prevent them leaving on time.

4. New employees have to consent to working more than 48 hours and Employers cannot force them to do so without this consent.
