Carefee childhood in Manila

I was in Baclaran, Manila today. It is one of the poorer part of Manila and I’ve realised that there are many poor parts in Manila.  As I was walking around the area, the heavens opened and rain fell.  Because the roads are paved by dirt, the rain water made everything messy – imagine dirt+rain water+rubbish+poor drainage system.  But these children didn’t seem to mind.  In fact, as the rain fell, they were dancing and singing in the rain and as soon as one in-progress manhole filled with water, a few of them jumped into the makeshift pool.

Their carefree enjoyment of what I thought was dirty and messy, made me envious.
